Membership & Events Manager
JOB CLASS: 40 hours per week, Non-exempt REPORTS TO: President
Summary Description:
The primary responsibilities of the Membership & Events Manager is to sell the programs and services and to manage major events of the Austin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for recruitment and signing up new members
- Develop new and innovative plans and recruitment programs to encourage membership of new, old, and former member businesses
- Responsible for retaining renewals
- Manage Ambassador group
- Manage assigned Chamber events and programs
- Maintain database of events through ChamberMaster
- Manage Chamber Bucks, invoicing and accounts receivable
- Greet visitors, answer phones and respond to email requests, process daily mail
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong organization, time management and multi-tasking skills, detail oriented
- Previous sales experience preferred and demonstrable ability to drive results
- Self-starter with a professional appearance
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Excel and Word
- Must have/maintain a dependable vehicle with proof of license and insurance
- Ability to prospect/cold-call new businesses and to upgrade and sell major accounts
- Strong verbal and written communications skills to communicate with prospects, members, and co-workers
- Some public speaking experience preferred
- Ability to think outside the box to offer new ideas, concepts, solutions, etc.
- Capable of maintaining sensitive/confidential information
- Must be a team player that works well in an adapting environment
- Exceptional people skills with an outgoing personality
- Team player that will assist when needed outside the normal scope of responsibilities
Education or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
- College degree or equivalent in business administration, management or other business field strongly preferred
- General understanding of not-for-profit organizations desired
- At least two years in membership, Chamber or trade association experience preferred
- Proven track record in sales
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to sit/stand for long periods of time; frequent bending or stooping to access files and some walking of steps required. Must be able to regularly lift, and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Must be able to work occasionally after normal business hours and/or weekends for planned events.
