Leadership Rooted in Community

As we move through 2026, I find myself reflecting on something foundational to both leadership and the work chambers do every day: community.

We are living in a time when many people feel increasingly disconnected from one another, from institutions and sometimes even from a shared sense of purpose. That disconnection has real consequences. Engagement declines. Trust erodes. And the willingness to step forward and lead becomes harder.

That is why the work of chambers matters so deeply right now.

Across Minnesota, chamber leaders are doing far more than hosting events or advocating for business priorities. We are convening people. We are building trust. We are creating spaces where leaders, businesses and communities come together around shared challenges and opportunities.

At their best, chambers create conditions where leadership can grow. Relationships are formed. Ideas are challenged. Partnerships emerge. People find the confidence to raise their hand, share their voice and invest in something bigger than themselves.

One thing I have always believed about communities across our region is this: people show up.

They show up to lead businesses with integrity.
They show up for their employees and neighbors.
They show up in moments of uncertainty and opportunity alike.

And when people consistently show up, strong communities and strong economies follow.

Much of the impact chambers create will never fit neatly into a spreadsheet or quarterly report. It is found in the business owner who feels supported, the emerging leader who gains confidence, the partnership that solves a regional challenge or the community that becomes stronger because people choose to engage rather than stand on the sidelines.

That work matters. Your leadership matters.

As chamber professionals, we have both the opportunity and responsibility to continue building communities where people feel connected, valued and inspired to lead. I am grateful for the work happening in chambers across Minnesota and for the leaders who continue showing up every day to strengthen the places we call home. I am also grateful and blessed to be working alongside so many passionate and dedicated professionals.

Here’s to another year of leadership rooted in community.
